3 FOR FREE & 3 PLEAS

I'm taking the DIRECT approach in this blog post.

I need your help.

The photo above shows three absolutely FREE places to either download or read online books of mine.

  • Download: Patterns on Pages
  • Read online: Betrayal in Blue and Freedom's Just a Word

Patterns on Pages was a KindleScout nominated book. It was not selected for publication. If it had been selected, all nominators would have received a code for a free download of the book. As a "thank you" to all who nominated I'm offering a free copy of the eBook between Oct 6 and Oct 10. That offer is good even if you didn't nominate the book.

First Free
Patterns on Pages
The Day the Earth Shattered, the catastrophic seismic event is worse than anyone predicted. Eighty percent of humans die from destruction, disease, starvation, and suicide. Civilization is erased. Live the struggle as five alien Time Synchronizers for Earth recruit illiterate two humans from the far future, return them to “this time,” where two teachers begin a long overdue lesson. Can the recruits return and decipher the patterns on pages of books in the NoCal’s only Li’bry and save humanity?

Here's the link to a 5-Star review by a reader of the preview version of Patterns.
"[It] has an original and brilliant angle when it comes to putting people from different times and cultures together. It’s executed perfectly and written with an incredible insight into human behaviour and society."

First Plea
Besides downloads, reviews are a huge piece of Amazon's ranking system.
I appreciate your following the directions below.

Second Free
Betrayal in Blue
How do you plug a leak you can’t find? is the question that rolls around in Private Detective Phil Mamba’s head like a steel ball in a child’s clown face puzzle. Throughout this complex look into the seamy world of drug traffickers, Mamba mentally manipulates multiple balls. Each ball represents a loose end of his investigation. When the last loose end is cut or tied off, the last ball rolls to a stop in the final hole. That’s when he knows he’s solved his case.

If this were in print, it would be around 700 pages long in a 6"x9" book. It's based on a true story. It's got memorable characters. Here's a link to a 5-Star review by a pre-publication reader. The title at that time was "The 5th Page."

Coming in just shy of 700 pages, one would think The 5th Page stretches a bit too long for the casual reader; however, just the opposite is true. Combining well-developed, unforgettable characters – Mamba chief among them – and a thoroughly researched, meticulously crafted tale, The 5th Page is both informative and entertaining, which adds to its page-turning appeal. Downing proves himself a masterful storyteller as he mixes fact and fiction in seamless fashion, throwing in just enough action and suspense to keep the reader hooked until the very end. A highly recommended read.

Second Plea
Betrayal in Blue is IN A CONTEST FOR PUBLICATION.

You can read it online. The site is set so you can start reading at any chapter. So, you can read awhile and quickly get back to the spot where you stopped.

Read it online here:
https://www.inkitt.com/stories/mystery/167990/chapters/1

Reading counts in the contest; so do reviews. Hint, hint.

Third Free
Freedom's Just a Word

Its origin is two online prompts that I melded into the idea for the story. An alien planet is "visited" by another alien group. How friendly and helpful is too friendly and too helpful?

Join Captain Garnell and her insurgents as the race to save their planet before the invaders . . .

You'll have to read it to find out what happens. It's about 10,000 words and is listed as a novellete on Inkitt.

Third Plea

Read it online here:
https://www.inkitt.com/stories/scifi/166362?utm_source=shared_web%20%E2%80%A6

While this isn't in a contest, reading counts. Reviews always count. Hint, hint.
