Four Updates
1. I was thrown out of my first Memory Loss Trial.
Less than two hours into the first day, I did so well on a memory test that I didn't fit their profile. The medicine they were testing was for people with less memory than I have.
2. I'm seriously considering the use of Donanemab.
One of the most often used treatments, Donanemab slows down the Alzheimer's progression. If I go with it, I'll still be looking for better options as they appear.
3. I found Kisunla and it's tempting.
"It's possible to significantly reduce amyloid plaques associated with early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease (A) when taking Kisunla" is one of the results of their testing.
Both have issues. Doesn't everything?
4. My ANA (Antinuclear Antibody) Test
My fingers have been stiffening and twisting off and on for several months. But it becam temporally debilitating recently.
Family members researched possible causes and I started drinking Gatorade for the electrolytes. That had minimal effects.
My last blood tests included an ANA test. The results were Positive/ABNORMAL. That result is an indicator for SEVEN possible disorders. Based on my history, the most probable is Rheumatoid Arthritis. Not good, but the other disorders are WAY WORSE.
I'm suspect I'll be referred to a specialist soon.
More to report about 2, 3, and 4 as they become available.

My husband, Burnie, whom you met, suffered with dementia and/or
ReplyDeleteAlzheimer’s disease. I was his caretaker here at home for the last two years. I admire your willingness to submit To tests and trials that will help others. Your background in science should add a lot to the studies. I wish you well.
THANK YOU FOR THIS UPLIFTING COMMENT, KAREN
DeleteDoctor Downing… well, I hate this. I was not aware and am so angry that such a brilliant mind has to fight this. I am so glad you’re being proactive and I’m sure that you will beat most odds. Sending you love, senior Chuck 💕

DeleteI'll let my wife know you are being angry for me. She will appreciate it! Thanks for your kind words.
DeleteWell this feels quite unfair! I’m so inspired by your ability to take the bull by the horns and figure out what’s going to work for you. God bless you as you continue on this remarkable journey!
ReplyDeleteI've had dozens of young women and men fight cancer. Some won, like you. Other's not so fortunate. People like all of you have inspired me. Thank you.
DeleteMr. Downing. First off, you are and always have been an inspiration. Second, the fact that you accept the situation and are proactively pursuing treatments and remedies will, I pray, serve you well. Two family members denied the memory issues and fought even an assessment until they needed 24-hour, professional medical care, you’re way ahead of most. Keep your chin up, I’m proud of you, thank you for sharing your journey. Prayers to fill in the gaps science misses. Your former student, Jennifer Stauffer
ReplyDeleteYou should try coconut water for electrolytes. You can enhance the floor with natural juices.
